CMMS Checklist for Getting Parks Ready for the Summer Season
This article identifies some of the assets that can be readied for the Summer using a CMMS for Parks.
Springtime is when trees start bud , flowers bloom and people start going to parks on weekends. However, in many States parks do not open 7 days a week until Memorial weekend. This makes springtime the ideal time to inspect park assets for repair and safety issues. CMMS software is the perfect tool for generating an inspection checklist and the scheduling the required maintenance to avoid liability as well as keep the park nice.
Park Inspection Checklist
Parks may have thousands of assets that need inspection but a good place to start is inspecting:
- Playground equipment – checks for corrosion and broken equipment
- Rest room facilities – checking for plumbing leaks as well as sanitary conditions
- Camping utility hookups – make sure power and/or gas lines are operating
- Grills and BBQ pit areas – should be clear of flammable debris
- Pools including filters, pipes and fencing
- Picnic tables – check for rot, stability and that they are secured
- Nature trails – search for sinkholes, fallen trees and other hazards
- Sport rentals (canoes, kayaks etc.) – check to make they have not been damaged during the off season by improper storage, make sure all safety equipment is in working order
- Bait and Tackle shops – inspect water lines, tank integrity, and merchandise
- Scoreboards – inspect power supply, check for corrosion
- Lighting, check all lighting and make sure it is working
- Roadways, inspect for pothole damage, glass and debris
- Golf carts or park ranger transportation – inspect batteries, tires and emergency equipment
- Sports facilities, check court surfaces, netting, ball fields, locker rooms, dugouts for off season damage
- Check all emergency stations such as lifeguard structures, first aid supplies
Once an inspection checklist has been generated, park maintenance staff the inspections questions are downloaded onto handheld devices. Using handheld devices eliminates paper work to record inspection results. All information is then uploaded back into the CMMS for management review and the setting of priorities for maintenance work to begin. The CMMS then generates work orders for repairs or preventive maintenance tasks.
The information collected by the CMMS database can be used to generate new inspection lists the following year so that any changes in an asset’s condition can be addressed. This is particularly useful for making capital budgets.
